![]() Compare that to an experience where players can connect to each other's XCOM 2 games through an actual co-op interface, have independent cameras that can look at and analyze different parts of the battlefield at once, have independent cursors to plan and act out their orders at once, and perhaps most importantly have a way to meet and play with people they don't already know through a matchmaking or lobby system. In practical terms - imagine present day co-op where you either swap control of the mouse constantly with your real life friends, or have a very time-delayed experience of being told where to move by your online friends through a private stream. The value of a mod and/or improvement isn't just measured in how it changes the basic gameplay, but in how it allows the player(s) to interface with the game as that is a huge part of enjoyment. Having multiple players connected at once is a huge improvement to the idea of co-op XCOM because it improves the most important quality to co-op XCOM - interface. "Put him there! Behind the wall corner! NO THAT'S THE WRONG WALL CORNER" is not enjoyable in a realistic sense, much less when you introduce the concept of stream delay. Nobody wants to play improvised XCOM co-op where it takes five minutes to complete each turn because you have to agree-by-committee on where you want the main player to move your soldiers to through watching your friend stream. Regardless of whether a game requires you to respond to something in a timely fashion or not, a person's time is still precious. They cannot both observe different parts of the battlefield or game at once. Xcom is not real-time, so there's nothing that two players sitting at one computer couldn't do that two players at two computers could. Players couldn't observe their cities, analyze territory, etc. I get where you're coming from, but let's be honest, hotseat Civilization games were not very fun at all primarily because everyone had to share the same computer. Why not just hotseat swap on control of specific characters, using a larger squadsize? Maybe use Steam's built-in game streaming if you really want to use two computers? When you take out real-time urgency to make decisions and motor-skill-based gameplay then you might as well just be talking to your teammate and mutually agreeing on moves. This is cool because it allows the players to work together to achieve maximum efficiency. The way I understood the devs was that each player would control one unit of the squad. Multiplayer is great fun, but my friends aren't die-hard competitive in XCOM so fighting against each other is not as interesting as playing together. I was excited about this mod because of the ability to play with friends on the same team.
